Bestfriends, An Open Letter

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”

— C.S. Lewis

You can never force friendship on anyone, can never change yourself and your personality just to create a friendship. If a person is meant to be in your life, they’ll be there. It doesn’t take a puzzle, it happens naturally. For that, I am thankful for my friends but mostly my bestfriend.

Bestfriends are unlike other friends, these creatures have the ability to understand the craziness, they love you weirdly and are just always there for you. They always have the best interests for you, even if it is on their expense.

Last year, I was inspired by Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa’s friendship when Franc donated her kidney to Selena (Selena had a lupus issue). This was beyond an act of kindness, when your bestfriend is in pain of any sort, the natural instinct is to make them feel okay and happy again.

My bestfriend and I have a weird story as to how we met.

She liked my poetry on Facebook and would constantly comment about them in my messenger. We later started following each other on twitter and Lord! would she retweet my nonsense. We migrated our chats to Whatsapp and would text. Not once had I met her to know the person I had befriended but something about her felt safe and okay. One day, her roommate had gone out and she wanted someone to keep company and drink with, I rode on that chance.

I got to her house not knowing what to expect, but once I was there, we talked like we had known each other for a long time. Then we started discovering our mutual likes and dislikes. Next thing you know, she is ny bestie, my sister and part-time mother. Her name is Aida.

We have shared great moments, but she has also helped me in my lowest lows. Our laughter is always amazing. We understand each other on a great level.

Friendship is not something that you learn in class, however, school becomes the basis of learning all life aspects.

Always show your friends how much you love them, reassure them of your support and just be wild and crazy together.

To Aida, thank you for always being there. My b*tch!
